2024 Social Justice Summer Film Camp Counselor Job Description

Camp counselor applications are due March 30, 2024.

The compensation package is $425/week, or $1700 for all four weeks. Priority will be given to applicants who can work all four weeks.

What is Social Justice Summer Film Camp?

Four one-week sessions taking place from July 8 - August 2, meeting at the University Heights Center, students in grades 5-9 will learn how to unleash all of the creative potentials of their iPads and other digital equipment to learn how to write a script, record quality video, and sound, and edit their films all in just five days. A "mini-festival" will be held for the final day of camp to screen and discuss each other’s work. The Social Justice Summer Film Camp is an enhanced learning program for Seattle students that encourages them to explore social justice through a creative lens and see themselves as capable storytellers whose voices and contributions have value. Social Justice Summer Film Camp counselors are local college students with an interest in social justice, film, and education.

Camp Counselor Requirements:

  • Deliver a fun program to campers.

  • Ensure that campers know and follow safety and educational procedures during camp programs.

  • Attend mandatory orientation meetings.

  • Maintain clear and positive verbal communication with all camp staff.

  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, supporting and guiding those assigned as leaders.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.

  • A genuine interest in social justice, filmmaking, and having fun with young children in an indoor/outdoor environment.

  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance.

  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.

  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Working towards an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in child development, education, recreation, or a related field.

  • Previous summer camp and/or education experience.

  • Provide a warm, nurturing, fun, and safe environment for all participants.

  • Interact with youth in a positive and professional manner.

  • Attend all meetings and functions required by the position.

  • Ability to facilitate and implement curriculum with participants of all ages.
